Sonam Kapoor On Healthy Pregnancy At The Age Of 37, ‘Progesterone Shots In My Thighs And Stomach’
Sonam Kapoor and her husband, Anand Ahuja are delighted to welcome a baby boy into their lives on August 20, 2022. The new mommy’s pregnancy journey has been inspirational to many women. From doing workouts and following a healthy diet to acing maternity photoshoots in kaftans and pretty dresses, Sonam’s journey to motherhood at the age of 37 is beautiful.
A few moments ago, the doting maasi, Rhea Kapoor dropped the first ever glimpses of the junior Kapoor, which are too cute to miss. Rhea, being the closest person to Sonam, could not control her tears of joy after seeing her baby boy in the hospital. The munchkin was adorably sleeping in the pictures, wrapped in a purple-hued swaddle. Check out!
In a recent interview with Vogue India, Sonam Kapoor recalled her life’s most memorable moment when she found out about her first pregnancy. Though Sonam’s hubby, Anand Ahuja was diagnosed with Covid-19, she had shared the ‘good news’ with him over a video call. Sonam can be quoted as narrating:
“I found out I was pregnant on Christmas Day. Anand was in the other room of our London apartment since he had Covid-19 and I basically Zoomed (video called) him and gave him the news. Then we called our parents and told them as well.”
Further, in the interview, Sonam talked about her difficult first trimester. She said that during her pregnancy time, many people were ill with Covid-19, and she was worried about catching the same virus. Moreover, having an advanced maternal age of 37, Sonam had to face many difficulties. In her words:
“We had all decided that I would be extra careful since a lot of people in London were getting Covid-19 around that time, but exactly a month later, I came down with a fever, cough and cold. I was terrified and immediately started googling ‘what happens if you have Covid when you’re pregnant?” It was tough. I was taking progesterone shots in my thighs and stomach—practically everywhere on my body — because I was of advanced maternal age and was constantly throwing up, sick and bedridden. Everyone’s so tense about women who get pregnant after 31 or 32. They tell you don’t do this, don’t do that, don’t get gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia. I was like, ‘wait, hang on, I still feel very young. I’ve got my dad’s (Anil Kapoor) genes, I look very young. It’ll be fine.”
In the same conversation, Sonam had shared her feelings about becoming a first-time parent. Calling the decision of giving birth to a child ‘selfish’, she had said:
“Priorities do change and I think that the child will become mine. The truth of the matter is that they didn’t choose to come into this world. You decided to bring them here, so it’s a very selfish decision.”
Sonam Kapoor is indeed an inspiration for many women, who are embracing motherhood in their 30s. What do you think?
